Indications for Use of ResMed Astral 100/150 Ventilator
The ResMed Astral 100/150 is a versatile ventilator designed to support breathing for patients with respiratory or tracheostomy needs. It is suitable for managing various conditions, including:
1.Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD): Helps patients with inflamed and narrowed airways that cause breathing difficulties.
2.Neuromuscular Diseases: Assists patients with weakened respiratory muscles.
3.Neurological Disorders: Supports breathing for patients with impaired respiratory control.
4.Post-Surgical Recovery: Provides temporary respiratory support for patients recovering from major surgeries.
Other Conditions: Such as severe pneumonia, heart failure, or pulmonary hemorrhage.
Modes of Operation in Astral 100/150
- CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure): Provides continuous positive pressure throughout inhalation and exhalation. Prevents airway collapse, ideal for upper airway issues like snoring or sleep apnea.
- (A)CV (Assist/Control Ventilation):A blend of assisted and controlled breathing. Supports patient-initiated breaths while maintaining a preset rate and volume.
- P(A)CV (Pressure Assist/Control Ventilation): Similar to (A)CV but uses pressure settings instead of volume for control.
- P-SIMV (Pressure-Synchronized Intermittent Mandatory Ventilation): Delivers a set number of mandatory breaths while allowing spontaneous breathing. Pressure adjusts to the patient's needs during their spontaneous breaths.
- V-SIMV (Volume-Synchronized Intermittent Mandatory Ventilation):Similar to P-SIMV but controls breaths based on volume instead of pressure.
- PS (Pressure Support): Adds pressure during patient-initiated breaths, making breathing easier. Suitable for patients transitioning off ventilator dependence.
